MITELĀ® SX200 TELEPHONE SYSTEM
(OPERATING AND REFERENCE MANUAL)
Please Note: The *key precedes programmed numbers.
To make an inside call, you simply,
Lift the handset...
Listen for dial tone...
And dial the 4-digit extension number.
To make an outside call,
Lift the handset...
Listen for the dial tone...
Dial 9 ... and then the outside number.
There is a 'Last Number Redial' feature, which allows you to call the last
number dialed again, just by pressing the (#) button.
FLASHING:
Some of the most important new features available on your phone require a
procedure called 'Flashing'. This procedure notifies the telephone system that
you want to have access to one of the special features. The Straight set (with
or without a light), to flash, you press one of the buttons in the handset cradle
for approximately one second, and then release it.
Using the Link set is a bit different, but simpler. You just press the red button
once.
The complete procedure is:
Lift the handset and listen for the dial tone...
'Flash' the switch hook' button and listen for three beeps, followed
by the transfer dial tone.
This indicates that your 'Flash' has been successful.
FEATURES & PROCEDURES:
We will show you some features now that will make your use of the telephone
system more versatile; they all use the same general procedures.
To do this, initiate a 'Flash' and then dial the code number of the feature
that you want.
CALL HOLD:
This feature allows you to place your present call on 'Hold and then originate a
new call.
The procedure is 'Flash' + code number 44.
You can now hang up your phone and make a phone call to someone
else while the first caller is waiting for you.
The 'Call-Hold Retrieve' allows you to get back to your original caller.
Just dial 45 and you are back to your original caller. (If, however, you
had forgotten that you had placed a caller on 'Hold' your phone would
ring back in two minutes, and you would be reconnected to the first
party).
The 'Call-Hold Retrieve' allows you to get back again to your original
caller, but this time from another extension phone, one in another
room.
You just dial 46 + the extension number at which you were previously.
In this way you are able to retrieve a held call, from a remote phone.
TRANSFERRING A CALL:
You can also transfer a call to another telephone.
The procedure is simply Flash = the extension number. Since the
calling party is then no longer on your line, you can speak privately, if
you wish, to the extension to which you are transferring the call. The
call will be transferred automatically when you hang up. If you don't
need to introduce the caller, once you have transferred the call, just
hang up.
If a number is busy or if there is no answer at the extension number,
Flash and use Call-Hold Retrieve (code 45) to get back to the caller and
let him or her know that the local is busy or that there is no one
available at the extension.
CONFERENCE CALL:
From 3 to 8 people can be included in a Conference call. They may be
from inside or outside the College, in any combination.
If you are talking to someone and wish to include a third person, Flash
and dial the extension or the outside phone number. When the party
answers, let them know this will be a conference call.
Then Flash and dial code number 38. This procedure brings all the
parties together into one conversation. Any extension within the
conference call can also bring in more people by repeating the
sequence for each additional party:
Flash + extension or outside number.
Flash + 38
As each new number is added, everyone in the conversation will hear a
beep.

(By the way, the one who is initiating the conference call is disconnected from
the others while he or she carries out the procedure). Meanwhile, however, the
other people in the conference can continue their conversation.
If, when making a conference call within Dawson, you encounter a busy signal
or get no answer, you have to return to the conference call group by using
Flash + code 45.
If outside Dawson you encounter a busy signal or receive no answer, Flash
and dial 39. Then you flash again and dial 45, which is the Call-Hold Retrieve
code that reconnects you to the conference.
CALLBACKS:
Callbacks are used when you want the telephone system to monitor a busy
extension and call you when the user hangs up. It will also monitor an
unanswered extension and notify you when the user returns and uses his or
her phone.
The procedure is:
If you hear a busy signal...
Or an unanswered ring...
Then dial 1 and hang up.
From here on, the telephone system will be monitoring and will call your
extension with a triple ring. When you lift your handset, the extension you
dialed will ring.
To cancel an individual callback, dial 41 + the extension number and hang up.
THE CAMP-ON PROCEDURE:
If the extension you have dialed is busy and you want to speak to the extension
user right away on an urgent matter, you can signal the person that you need
to speak with him or her.
The procedure is to dial 3; at this point the person you are calling will hear two
beeps on the line. That person may answer your emergency call immediately, if
they wish, by Flashing and dialing 33. This puts the original call on Hold and
allows him or her to take your call.
When one wishes to return to the original call, the Retrieve code is Flash + 45.
This procedure may be repeated as often as is necessary to alternate between
calls.
In the case of outside calls the Camp-on procedure is the same, Flash + 33.
If, however, you are unable to answer the outside call that has 'camped-on',
the call will automatically return to the switchboard.
THE CALL PICK-UP:
You can also answer calls made to other extensions from your own
telephone. This is known as a 'Call Pick-up'.
If you are within the same group, dial 47.
If you are not within the same group, dial 48 and the extension number
of the ringing telephone. We call this a 'Directed Call Pick-up'.
THE TELEPHONE 'TONE LANGUAGE':
Your telephone system provides you with differing tones at various
times to inform you of the progress of the call. A tone demonstration
feature is built into the system to help you to identify and learn the
meaning of these various tones.
To listen to the tone demonstration, lift the handset and dial 35.
You can dial the tone codes from the following list:
Dial 12 to hear the Transfer dial tone. This tone is heard
when your Flash is successful.
Dial 16 for the Special Ringing tone. This tone is heard
by the Attendants and by outside callers when a dialed
extension is ringing.
Dial 17 for the Error tone. This is the tone you would hear
when the telephone system is unable to comply with
your request. Try the call, or feature, once more. On the
other hand, perhaps your phone does not permit access
to this feature.
Dial 18 for the Conference tone. This si the tone heard
when a new person joins a Conference call.
Dial 19 for the Camp-on tone. This tone is heard during a
conversation when you have an incoming call waiting to
be answered, or when someone has 'camped-on' your
line.
CALL FORWARD: ALL CALLS:
Link' set only.
This feature sends all your calls to another telephone local; for example,
to a secretary, to ensure that your calls will be answered.
Dial code number 22 plus the extension number to
which your calls are to be forwarded.
What will happen is that your own phone wills no longer ring because
the calls will have been forwarded to a different number. However,
make sure that you check with the person who is going to receive your
forwarded calls to you.
The person to whom you have forwarded your calls will be now being
the only one who can reach you by phone and transfer calls to you.

If you do pick-up your phone, you will hear an interrupted dial tone, to remind
you that you have active the Call-forward All Calls feature. However, you may
still use your phone to make calls out.
To cancel a Call-forward All Calls, dial 22 and hang-up.
If you want your calls to be forwarded only in the case that your line is busy or
if there is no answer, here is what to do
First Case: to Call-forward when your line is busy:
Dial 33 + the extension number where you want the
phone to ring. Then hang up.
Dial 24 + the extension number where you want the phone to ring.
If you want to cancel the Call-forward-busy feature, dial the same code you
dialed when you activated the Call-forward, but omit the extension number.
So in this case one would dial (23 + 24).
Second Case: a Call-forward when there is no answer after three rings:
Dial 25 + the extension number where you want the
phone to ring. Then hang up.
Dial 26 and the extension number where you want the phone to ring.
If you want to cancel the Call-Forward-No-Answer, dial the same code you
dialed when you activated the Call-forward, but omit the extension number.
So, in this case, you would dial (25 + 26).
Please don't forget: when you use the Call-forward feature, you must let the
other person know about it. This is the kind of politeness we would all
appreciate.
